The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has adopted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its preferred presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The development was announced during a press conference in Sokoto by ADC chieftain, Muktar Magori, a former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.

According to Magori, the decision followed consultations among party loyalists and political stakeholders in the state ahead of the ADC presidential primaries and the 2027 elections.

“This decision is in preparation for the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries and the 2027 general elections,” he stated.

The briefing was attended by several notable ADC leaders in the state, including former Commissioner for Information, Dahiru Maishanu, former Head of Service, Abubakar Muhammad, and the party’s State Chairman, Abdullahi Maigwandu.

ADC IN ENUGU REJECTS ALLEGED THREATS OVER 2027 SUPPORT

Meanwhile, the ADC in Enugu State has declared that the South-East region will not be intimidated into supporting President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The party reacted to comments reportedly made by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, during an inspection of federal projects in Ebonyi State, where he allegedly urged the South-East to support Tinubu’s re-election or risk losing ongoing federal infrastructure projects.

In a statement, the Enugu ADC Secretary, Adolphus Ude, described the alleged remarks as “reckless, irresponsible and unacceptable.”

Ude accused Umahi of attempting to blackmail the South-East politically, insisting that the region remains politically independent and cannot be forced to support any candidate against its will.

“Umahi should mention the major infrastructure projects being executed by the Tinubu government in the South-East and state their locations and value,” Ude said.

He argued that most of the projects being cited by the Federal Government were inherited from previous administrations and not new projects initiated under the Tinubu administration.

According to him, the South-East has continued to suffer marginalisation, citing the absence of major infrastructure projects such as rail development and the dredging of the River Niger.

Ude further alleged that the region has received inadequate representation in the Federal Executive Council and complained that residents of the South-East still face challenges accessing passport services within the region.

“SOUTH-EAST OWES TINUBU NO POLITICAL LOYALTY” – ADC

The ADC chieftain maintained that development projects are constitutional responsibilities of the Federal Government and should not be presented as political rewards.

He stressed that the South-East owes Tinubu no political loyalty, noting that the President lost in all five South-East states during the 2023 presidential election.

According to Ude, voters in the region would make their political choices in 2027 based on governance, fairness, equity and inclusion rather than threats or political pressure.

He called on Umahi to withdraw the alleged comments and apologise to Ndigbo, insisting that no public officeholder has the right to threaten any region over projects funded with public resources.
