Atiku’s South-east VP Search May Be Strategy To Weaken Peter Obi’s Influence – Analyst
A public affairs analyst, Summer Sambo, has suggested that the move by the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, to consider a running mate from the South-East may be aimed at reducing the political influence of Peter Obi in the region ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
AIV News recalls that Atiku emerged as the ADC presidential candidate after defeating Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen during the party’s presidential primary.
However, the former Vice President is yet to announce his running mate, with speculations linking the position to either Rotimi Amaechi or former Imo State Governor, Emeka Ihedioha.
Speaking during an interview on The Morning Show on ARISE News, Sambo said available indicators suggest Atiku is likely to pick a vice-presidential candidate from the South-East.
“The indicators around Atiku’s running mate suggest he’s likely to choose the South-East. The South-East has always been his political base in the South,” Sambo stated.
The analyst argued that such a move could be part of a broader political strategy to challenge Peter Obi’s strong support base in the region and strengthen Atiku’s electoral prospects.
Political observers continue to watch closely as Atiku weighs his options, with the choice of a running mate expected to play a significant role in shaping alliances and voter dynamics ahead of the 2027 election.
