A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that state governors are already mobilising massive financial resources to support President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okonkwo made the claim during an appearance on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande on Channels Television, where he delivered a critical assessment of the Tinubu administration nearly three years after it assumed office.

According to the former Nollywood actor-turned-politician, politics has become the only sector currently thriving under the administration, alleging that governors are already budgeting about ₦800 billion to support Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

“This is the government of catastrophe. The only viable business is politics,” Okonkwo stated.

“The governors are already budgeting ₦800 billion to support the campaign. That is the only industry that is blossoming under Tinubu because he does not want any contest in 2027,” he added.

Okonkwo further described the current administration as “three years of catastrophe,” citing worsening economic hardship, rising insecurity, and increasing public debt.

He argued that the only major promise fulfilled by the administration was its commitment to borrowing, referencing repeated borrowing projections contained in national budgets.

“The only thing I can concede to President Tinubu is that in the budget, all the amounts he said he was going to borrow, he borrowed it. That is the only thing he fulfilled,” he said.

The ADC stalwart also criticised the Federal Government’s debt management strategy, warning that Nigeria risks a fiscal crisis if debt sustainability continues to be measured primarily through Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rather than actual revenue generation and productive output.

“A government that is not producing anything is now dubiously computing our debts based on GDP,” he stated.

Okonkwo additionally expressed concern over the country’s security situation, alleging that insecurity has worsened significantly under the current administration.

“Nigeria has become a killing field,” he said, while also claiming that Nigeria ranks among the most terrorised nations globally.
