JUST IN: Peter Obi Dumps ADC, Cites “Toxic Political Climate” and External Interference in Party Affairs

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced his exit from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), attributing his decision to what he described as worsening political hostility and alleged external interference in the party’s internal processes.

In a detailed statement released on Sunday, Obi said his decision followed deep personal reflection after a church service, noting that his experience in recent political engagements had been marked by emotional strain and persistent internal tensions.

He lamented what he called an increasingly harsh political environment in Nigeria, where, according to him, sincerity, humility, and principled leadership are often misinterpreted or undervalued. Obi added that individuals who strive to serve with integrity are frequently subjected to criticism, suspicion, and undue pressure.

The former Labour Party presidential flagbearer stressed that his departure from the ADC was not the result of personal conflict with party leaders, including Senator David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he continues to respect.

Rather, he pointed to recurring patterns of legal disputes, internal divisions, and alleged external influence within political parties, which he claimed have consistently disrupted cohesion and weakened democratic practice.

Obi further expressed concern that those who attempt to contribute meaningfully to national development often face isolation or misrepresentation, even when their intentions are rooted in public service.

Despite his exit, he maintained that his commitment to national transformation remains unchanged, stating that his aspiration is not driven by political office but by a desire to see improved security, reduced poverty, and better living conditions for Nigerians.

He reaffirmed his belief in a “new Nigeria,” emphasizing that the country can still achieve progress through accountable leadership, fairness, and expanded opportunities for citizens.
