Joy and relief swept across Arogbo Kingdom as residents, community leaders, youths, and elderly women united to express profound appreciation to the former Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), SHC (Hon.) Dr. Kingsley Kemebradigha Kuku, Esq., for his timely intervention in addressing the devastating flooding that threatened lives, homes, and livelihoods in the ancient kingdom.
The appreciation was conveyed during a visit by community leaders and youth representatives, who described Kuku’s intervention as timely, life-saving, and a demonstration of genuine compassion and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the Senior Health Officer, Sobijoh Letimi, said the intervention came at a critical period when floodwaters had already begun wreaking havoc across several parts of Arogbo, the headquarters of Arogbo Kingdom.
“If not for Hon. Kingsley Kuku’s prompt intervention, many houses would have been submerged, families displaced, and properties worth millions of naira destroyed. His swift response saved our community from what could have become a major environmental and humanitarian disaster. We sincerely appreciate his compassion, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the people of Arogbo,” Letimi stated.
Also speaking, High Chief Thompson Eduh, a respected traditional leader and one of those directly affected by the flooding, described Kuku as a dependable leader whose passion for community development has remained steadfast over the years. According to him, the flood control project has restored hope to many families who had feared losing everything to the rising floodwaters.
“Hon. Kingsley Kemebradigha Kuku has consistently demonstrated uncommon love for his people. His intervention has once again shown that true leadership is defined by timely action, especially in moments of crisis. Arogbo Kingdom will always remember this noble gesture,” Eduh said.
According to the Coordinator of the flood control intervention, Mr. Kehinde Kuete, the successful coordination of the emergency flood control exercise carried out on July 30, 2026, was made possible through the collective efforts of Leghetimi Sobunch, Olatei Olowu, Tibiebi Kuete, Okafor, Yee Doso, and the Presidents of the various Arogbo Quarters Youth Associations. He commended their dedication, teamwork, and unwavering commitment, noting that their coordinated efforts were instrumental in ensuring the timely execution of the intervention and mitigating the devastating impact of the flooding on the community.
Speaking on behalf of the youths, the leaders expressed profound gratitude to Hon. Kingsley Kuku for responding swiftly to the urgent needs of the kingdom.
They noted that the intervention had brought significant relief to residents, protected numerous homes and properties from further destruction, and renewed public confidence in community-centred development.
“This intervention has restored hope to our people. It has protected lives, preserved our homes, and demonstrated that our community is blessed with leaders who genuinely care. We are sincerely grateful to Hon. Kingsley Kuku for standing with Arogbo in our time of need,” the youth leaders said.
The elderly women of the community, many of whom were among those worst affected by the flooding, also expressed heartfelt appreciation, describing Kuku as a compassionate son of the Niger Delta who came to their rescue when help was most needed.
Speaking on behalf of the women, Madam Ebe-ere said many widows and elderly residents had feared losing their homes before the intervention.
“We cried because the flood was taking over our homes. We prayed for God to send help, and He answered our prayers through Hon. Kingsley Kuku. Today, our children can sleep peacefully again. We thank God for blessing us with a son who remembers his people. May God continue to protect, strengthen, and prosper him,” she said amid emotional applause.
The residents also appealed to the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), under the leadership of Dr. Samuel Ogbuku; the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), led by Prince Olabiyi Olaleye Poroye; as well as other public-spirited individuals, corporate organisations, and development partners, to emulate Hon. Kingsley Kuku’s example by supporting critical infrastructure and humanitarian projects across Arogbo Kingdom.
They stressed that sustained investment in flood control systems, drainage infrastructure, shoreline protection, and environmental management would not only safeguard lives and property but also promote sustainable development and improve the quality of life in the riverine kingdom.
The appreciation visit concluded with prayers for Hon. Kingsley Kuku and renewed calls for stronger collaboration among government agencies, interventionist institutions, development partners, and well-meaning Nigerians to address the environmental challenges confronting Arogbo Kingdom and other vulnerable riverine communities.
