The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Toyota Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community security outfit established by Yoruba Nation advocate, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The donation was announced on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of the security outfit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife, Osun State.
The monarch described the establishment of the security network as a timely initiative aimed at complementing existing security efforts and enhancing the protection of lives and property across Yoruba communities.
He commended Sunday Igboho for his commitment to community security and urged stakeholders across Yorubaland to support genuine initiatives that promote peace, safety and development.
The Ooni stressed that ensuring the security of communities is a collective responsibility that goes beyond political, religious or ideological differences, adding that sustainable development can only thrive in a peaceful and secure environment.
He also called on traditional rulers, business leaders, professionals, community leaders and other prominent Yoruba sons and daughters to support the security outfit, noting that unity remains essential in addressing the region’s security challenges.
According to the monarch, the progress and stability of Yorubaland depend on collective action and cooperation among all stakeholders.
In his response, Sunday Igboho expressed appreciation to the Ooni for the financial support, the Hilux vehicle and the royal endorsement of the initiative.
He described the Ooni as a respected father figure and a symbol of unity for Yoruba people around the world, noting that his support would further strengthen efforts to safeguard communities.
Igboho disclosed that he briefed the monarch on the activities of the Iru Ekun Security Network and sought his continued guidance and blessings.
He also announced plans to organise a security summit involving traditional rulers from across Yorubaland to discuss practical solutions to the security challenges facing the region. According to him, the proposed summit, subject to the Ooni’s approval, is expected to hold at the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.
Igboho reaffirmed that the Iru Ekun Security Network would operate within the provisions of the law, work closely with relevant security agencies and local communities, and focus on community policing, intelligence gathering and the promotion of peace throughout Yorubaland.
