Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has issued a strong warning against individuals he alleged are collaborating with criminal elements involved in kidnapping activities across the South-West.

Speaking at the palace of the Chief of Igboho in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, Igboho alleged that some Yoruba indigenes were aiding criminal groups in the abduction of residents within the region.

According to him, such individuals would face severe consequences if found supporting criminal activities.

There are some Yorubas collaborating with Fulani groups in the kidnapping of our people and aiding them.

“I will kill any Yoruba person supporting and conniving with Fulani to kidnap in our lands; the judgement for such a person is death.

“Anybody that hails from Igboho and is supporting Fulani groups to kidnap people will not end well,” he said.

Igboho’s remarks have drawn reactions from northern stakeholders and renewed concerns over the language used in addressing insecurity and ethnic relations.

Reacting to the comments, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) called on the Federal Government and relevant authorities to intervene and discourage statements capable of escalating tensions.

The group condemned what it described as an ultimatum directed at Fulani leaders in Oyo State following reports of the abduction of a pregnant woman and her relatives.

The National Publicity Secretary of ACF, Tukur Muhammad-Baba, argued that ethnic profiling and collective accusations could worsen the security situation and undermine national unity.

According to him, government institutions, security agencies, traditional rulers and religious leaders should act to prevent further escalation.

It is, therefore, the duty of the state, security agencies and community leaders, religious clergy, etc., to call him to order and to make it clear that ethnic profiling is a many-sided sword, a recipe for anarchy and an aberration in the modern world,” he said.

The forum maintained that attributing criminal acts to an entire ethnic group was inappropriate and could deepen division.

Meanwhile, Igboho had previously maintained that his campaign on insecurity targets criminal activities and not any ethnic nationality, insisting that his advocacy focuses on improving safety across the South-West and other parts of Nigeria.
