A Busineess magnet and politician Alabo Dumo Lulu-Briggs has been confirmed as the governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.

His emergence followed the party’s primary election process conducted across the state’s local government areas, where he stood as the sole aspirant seeking the party’s nomination.

With no challenger in the race, Lulu-Briggs secured the NDC ticket and will now lead the party into what is expected to be a fiercely contested governorship election in 2027.

The development marks another significant step in the build-up to the next electoral cycle in Rivers State, as political parties continue to position their candidates for the state’s top office.

Lulu-Briggs, who previously sought the governorship under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), returns to the frontline of Rivers politics with the backing of the NDC.

His nomination comes shortly after Kingsley Chinda emerged as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). Chinda’s emergence followed recent political developments that saw Governor Siminalayi Fubara step aside from the contest.

With major political parties now unveiling their standard-bearers, attention is gradually shifting toward campaign strategies, policy proposals, and political alliances that could shape the outcome of the 2027 governorship election.

Observers say the race is likely to draw widespread interest both within and outside Rivers State, given the state’s political influence and strategic importance in Nigeria’s electoral landscape.
