The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to intensify reconciliation efforts and woo back members who have defected from the party.

Wike made the appeal on Friday during a visit to the party’s national secretariat at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, where he urged the National Working Committee (NWC) to adopt strategic measures aimed at reuniting the party.

He emphasized the importance of engaging former members through deliberate outreach, noting that many defectors are still politically undecided and could be persuaded to return if properly approached.

According to him, “After elections, you will need the support of every party member, morally and otherwise,” stressing that unity remains critical to the party’s growth and electoral success.

The former Rivers State governor expressed optimism about the PDP’s future, describing it as a strong and viable political platform capable of regaining widespread support across the country.

Wike also reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and pledged continued support to the NWC, acknowledging that although the PDP has experienced internal crises, it is gradually stabilising.

He urged party leaders to introduce programmes that would strengthen the PDP’s popularity, adding that being a leading opposition party requires winning elections and maintaining grassroots relevance.

Responding, the PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, assured that the current leadership is committed to repositioning the party and restoring its strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He expressed confidence in the capacity of the NWC to deliver on its mandate, pledging that the party would work towards reclaiming political dominance nationwide.

The development comes amid ongoing realignments within Nigeria’s political landscape as parties intensify preparations for future electoral contests.
