Wike May Hijack Divided IYC, Evah Blasts Ijaw Leaders and Questions Jonathan’s Presidential Ambition

In a publication sent to Arogbo-Ibe Voice Reporters on Thursday, June 4, 2026, veteran Niger Delta activist and environmental rights campaigner, Super Comrade Joseph Evah, expressed concern over what he described as the lack of strategic leadership and unity among the Ijaw people, particularly regarding the ongoing leadership crisis within the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC).

Evah lamented that repeated warnings about the dangers of allowing the IYC to drift into factional leadership and disputed presidential elections were ignored by key stakeholders and elders in Ijawland.

According to him, the failure of respected Ijaw leaders and stakeholders to intervene in the crisis has created an environment that could allow external political interests to exploit divisions within the ethnic nationality.

“I raised the issue of the IYC going into a factional presidential election and called on elders to intervene, but nobody was interested. If a political actor like Nyesom Wike eventually hijacks any of the factions and begins to fund them, we will start crying and complaining. That is the sickness in Ijawland blame game every day,” Evah stated.

The activist further criticized what he described as the absence of a coordinated political strategy among Ijaw leaders, stressing that internal disunity continues to weaken the collective bargaining power of the people.

He also questioned discussions surrounding a possible presidential ambition of former President Goodluck Jonathan, arguing that successful presidential bids require strong political structures, alliances, and support networks.

Evah urged Ijaw leaders, stakeholders, and youth groups to prioritize unity, strategic planning, and institution-building to advance the collective interests of the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta region.
