Sowore Rushed To Hospital After Collapsing During Democracy Day Protest
Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, was reportedly taken to hospital after collapsing during a confrontation between protesters and police operatives at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
The incident occurred on Friday during a Democracy Day protest organised to draw attention to insecurity, economic hardship, and governance concerns in the country.
According to reports, the demonstration involved activists and civil society groups before security operatives allegedly dispersed the gathering using teargas.
Witnesses said confusion followed as protesters attempted to leave the area amid the fumes.
Sowore was reportedly affected during the incident and later lost consciousness.
Supporters and fellow demonstrators quickly moved to assist him and evacuated him from the protest venue.
Sources close to the activist said he regained consciousness while being transported away from the scene.
He was subsequently taken to an undisclosed hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
The incident reportedly increased tension around the protest venue, with some participants condemning the actions of security operatives.
The demonstrators had gathered to call for urgent government action on insecurity, economic challenges, and broader governance issues affecting Nigerians.
