Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has stated that his administration is willing to support the reintegration of bandits who genuinely renounce violence and embrace peace.

The governor said the state government remains open to dialogue, repentance, rehabilitation, and reintegration for individuals involved in banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes, provided they lay down their arms and return to lawful living.

Radda made the statement on Thursday during the inauguration of 152 housing units constructed for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Jibia Local Government Area.

He urged individuals still engaged in violent activities to abandon criminality and return to their communities, assuring that those who demonstrate sincere commitment to peace would receive support and opportunities to rebuild their lives.

According to the governor, the initiative forms part of broader efforts to restore peace, rebuild communities affected by insecurity, and reduce hardship across the state.

Speaking on the housing intervention, Radda explained that the project was launched in October 2024 through collaboration between the Katsina State Government and development partners.

He noted that the intervention extends beyond housing and includes facilities designed to strengthen livelihoods, security, and community resilience.

The governor listed additional components of the project to include a Climate Peace Entrepreneurship Centre, solar mini-grid electrification, a veterinary clinic, market stalls, VIP toilets at the cattle market, rehabilitation of the cattle loading ramp, potable water supply, and installation of streetlights.

According to him, the facilities are intended to support economic recovery, promote peaceful coexistence, and improve living conditions for residents affected by insecurity.

Radda added that security conditions in Jibia have improved in recent years, allowing farmers to return to their farmlands and helping to revive agricultural and commercial activities.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and development partners to sustain peace across vulnerable communities.

The governor acknowledged the contributions of development partners, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the German Government through GIZ, and the Norwegian Government.

He stressed that rebuilding communities affected by violence requires sustained partnership, patience, and collective responsibility from government institutions and citizens.

Radda also encouraged beneficiaries of the housing scheme and supporting facilities to use them responsibly and contribute to ongoing peacebuilding efforts.
