Popular Nigerian media personality, Frank Edoho, has clarified the circumstances surrounding his initial exit as host of the television game show, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire (WWTBM), stating that he was never dismissed from the programme.
Speaking during an interview on The KK Show, Edoho explained that the programme was suspended after its longtime sponsor withdrew financial support following regulatory challenges, bringing the show to a temporary end.
According to him, the withdrawal of sponsorship made it impossible for the programme to continue at the time, leading to its suspension after more than a decade on air.
Edoho revealed that when plans emerged to revive the show with new sponsors, he entered negotiations with the producers, seeking not only to return as host but also to become an executive producer with a stake in the programme.
He said he believed his 13 years of hosting the show had made him an important part of its success and that he deserved a greater role in its future.
However, the negotiations were unsuccessful after both parties failed to reach an agreement. Edoho explained that his absence during the relaunch prompted media reports claiming he had been dropped as host, a claim he described as false.
He maintained that the reports were based on assumptions rather than facts, stressing that his departure resulted from unresolved contractual negotiations rather than dismissal.
Edoho also reflected on his broadcasting career, recalling that he began as a radio presenter at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), where he worked for four years before moving into television, a transition that significantly increased his public recognition.
He hosted Who Wants To Be A Millionaire from 2004 to 2017, becoming one of Nigeria’s most recognisable television personalities during that period.
The programme later returned in 2022 with new sponsors and an increased prize money, with Edoho eventually resuming his role as host following the successful conclusion of discussions.
