Power Minister Assures Nigerians Of Improved Electricity Supply
Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, has assured citizens that noticeable improvements in electricity supply will soon be experienced across the country as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to address longstanding challenges in the power sector.
Speaking to journalists shortly after his swearing-in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tegbe acknowledged the complexity of the sector but expressed confidence that ongoing reforms and investments would begin to yield visible results.
According to the minister, while there is no quick solution capable of instantly resolving the nation’s power challenges, significant work is already being undertaken to improve electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
He noted that the Tinubu administration has committed substantial resources to the sector and remains focused on delivering sustainable improvements for households and businesses nationwide.
Tegbe emphasized that although uninterrupted electricity supply cannot be achieved overnight, Nigerians should expect gradual and measurable progress in service delivery.
He disclosed that since his confirmation, he has held consultations with key stakeholders across the industry, including the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Rural Electrification Agency, and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, among other sector operators.
The minister explained that these engagements have focused on identifying critical challenges and securing commitments aimed at improving operational efficiency and power delivery nationwide.
Tegbe further stated that recent reports indicate improvements in electricity supply in some parts of the country, attributing the development to the commitment of workers, regulators, and operators within the sector.
He cited the rapid restoration of a feeder station in Katampe by TCN personnel within 24 hours as an example of the dedication being demonstrated by power sector workers.
The minister also highlighted the resumption of operations by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company after a prolonged period of inactivity, describing it as a positive step toward strengthening electricity infrastructure.
Appealing for patience and public support, Tegbe assured Nigerians that the government is determined to tackle the challenges affecting the sector and improve service delivery across the country.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to implementing reforms and investments that will enhance electricity access, boost economic activities, and improve the quality of life for citizens.
The minister expressed optimism that ongoing interventions would eventually transform the sector and move Nigeria closer to achieving reliable and sustainable power supply.
