Political Storm as Governor’s Aide Dismissed for Criticising Tinubu
A media aide attached to the Office of the Political Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has been dismissed from his position after publicly urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step down from office.
The aide, Mr. Osborne Okon, was relieved of his appointment with immediate effect following a social media post in which he criticised the President’s leadership and suggested that resignation would be the honourable course of action.
In the Facebook post that sparked the controversy, Okon wrote: “In a sane clime President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would’ve respectfully and honourably resigned. I’m of APC but truth be told.”
The comment quickly gained traction online and reportedly drew the attention of government authorities.
In a termination letter dated June 2, 2026, and signed by the Political Adviser to the Governor, Prince Godwin Ntuk Udeh, the decision was attributed to what the office described as acts bordering on disloyalty.
According to the letter, “Following actions bordering on disloyalty and considering the necessity to always keep the Office of the Political Adviser purified, it has become compelling that you Mr. Osborne Ubong Okon be and is hereby relieved of your engagement as a Media Aide to the Political Adviser to His Excellency the Governor, with immediate effect and from today 2 June 2026.”
The office further cautioned members of the public against engaging with Okon in any official capacity on its behalf, stressing that any such dealings would not be recognised.
The letter added: “Any person having dealings with the above mentioned former Media Aide in relation to this office of his former engagement does so on his/her own peril.”
The dismissal has triggered widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating whether the action reflects a growing intolerance for dissenting views within political circles or an expected consequence of publicly opposing the leadership of one’s party and government.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Governor Umo Eno nor the Presidency had issued an official statement on the matter.
