The National Democratic Party (NDP) has officially unveiled Ada Fredrick as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, positioning her as the party’s standard-bearer in what it described as a mission to drive national renewal and inclusive governance.

The announcement was made on Monday during a press conference in Abuja, where the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Emeka Wachuku, expressed confidence in the NDP’s ability to emerge as a formidable force in the upcoming elections.

According to Wachuku, Fredrick emerged through a consensus affirmation following primary elections conducted across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He described the presidential candidate as a resilient grassroots politician with a proven record of leadership and commitment to national development.

Wachuku explained that Fredrick’s political journey began with the establishment of Ward2Ward, a grassroots mobilization platform, before she went on to found the National Democratic Party in 2026 as a vehicle for advancing her vision for national transformation.

He noted that she also served as the party’s first National Chairman following its inaugural National Executive Council (NEC) Congress, an exercise reportedly monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Speaking on the party’s philosophy, Wachuku said the NDP is committed to promoting inclusion, youth participation, and women’s leadership in governance.

The NDP is a progressive political family that recognizes the value of women and the immense potential of young people in nation-building,” he stated.

He added that Fredrick’s emergence reflects the party’s determination to offer Nigerians a credible alternative focused on economic growth, social welfare, and sustainable development.

According to him, the party’s agenda prioritizes infrastructure development, employment generation, affordable healthcare, quality education, and improved welfare for retirees and vulnerable citizens.

Wachuku further disclosed that the NDP plans to drive industrialization by encouraging local processing of Nigeria’s natural resources rather than relying heavily on the export of raw materials.

The renewal of Nigeria must align with the aspirations of its citizens. We are committed to building an economy driven by value addition, job creation, and investments in human capital development,” he said.

He also emphasized that an NDP-led government would ensure broader representation for women and youths in key decision-making positions.

The party expressed optimism about its electoral prospects, pledging to secure significant support across the country through grassroots engagement, discipline, and credible leadership.

Fredrick Promises Hope, Inclusive Leadership

In her acceptance speech, Ada Fredrick described her emergence as both an honour and a great responsibility, pledging to provide compassionate and people-focused leadership.

She argued that Nigeria is at a critical stage in its development and requires leaders who are empathetic, courageous, and committed to genuine change.

We are facing enormous challenges as a nation, and this is a time when women must rise to contribute meaningfully to national leadership. Nigeria needs voices that can speak passionately for the people and deliver results,” she said.

Fredrick assured Nigerians that her administration would prioritize the welfare of citizens and remain faithful to the promises outlined in the party’s manifesto.

This responsibility is huge, but with God’s guidance, we will do our very best. We will offer Nigerians renewed hope and work tirelessly to fulfill our commitments,” she added.

The NDP presidential candidate also called on women and young people across the country to actively participate in shaping Nigeria’s future.

I will not fail my country. I will serve with dedication as a woman, a mother, and a patriot. We invite Nigerian women and youths to join us in building a better future for all,” she said.

The party disclosed that its comprehensive manifesto would be unveiled in the coming weeks, outlining detailed policy proposals and governance strategies ahead of the 2027 elections.

Also speaking at the event, the NDP House of Representatives candidate for Abuja South, David Oroge, described Fredrick as a grassroots mobilizer with the capacity to inspire national support.

Oroge said her leadership qualities, integrity, and ability to connect with ordinary Nigerians make her well-positioned to lead the country.

She is a woman with a sincere heart and a genuine desire to serve. She is not seeking power for its own sake but is prepared to provide purposeful leadership for Nigeria,” he stated.
