NDLEA Warns Nigerians Against Fake Auction Offers, Forfeited Vehicle Sales
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has cautioned Nigerians against fraudulent auction offers being circulated by scammers posing as senior officials of the agency to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement issued on Friday by the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA disclosed that fraudsters have been using the names of top officials, including the Secretary to the Agency, Barrister Shadrach Haruna, to distribute fake letters and messages advertising forfeited vehicles at suspiciously low prices.
The agency described the offers as fraudulent schemes aimed at defrauding members of the public, stressing that no NDLEA official has the authority to privately allocate, sell, or offer forfeited vehicles or other seized assets to individuals.
According to the statement, all vehicles and assets forfeited as proceeds of drug-related crimes are disposed of strictly through transparent public auction processes conducted by duly appointed and government-approved auctioneers.
The NDLEA further explained that any legitimate auction exercise would be publicly announced through national newspapers and the agency’s official communication platforms in accordance with established legal and public procurement procedures.
The agency urged Nigerians to disregard any private letters, text messages, emails, or social media messages claiming to offer forfeited vehicles on behalf of Barrister Shadrach Haruna or any other NDLEA official.
It also advised anyone approached with such fraudulent offers to promptly report the matter to the nearest NDLEA command or through the agency’s official communication channels.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity, the NDLEA urged the public to remain vigilant and verify any information relating to the disposal of government assets through official sources before taking any action.
