Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has alleged that the recent kidnapping of pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State may have been orchestrated as part of a plot to blackmail President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Fayose made the allegation on Monday during an interview on Channels Television, where he questioned the circumstances surrounding the incident that has generated widespread concern across the country.
According to the former governor, the timing of the kidnapping raises suspicions and warrants closer scrutiny, alleging possible involvement of the Oyo State Government led by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Fayose argued that the incident could be politically motivated and aimed at creating a negative perception of the Tinubu administration’s handling of security challenges.
While commending President Tinubu for what he described as efforts to stabilise the country and address challenges inherited from previous administrations, Fayose maintained that the President was making progress despite prevailing difficulties.
He stated that Tinubu had effectively managed the consequences of policies and challenges left behind by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Drawing a comparison with the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Fayose claimed that insecurity was previously used as a tool to undermine Jonathan’s government and suggested that a similar strategy may now be unfolding against President Tinubu.
The former governor’s remarks have added a new dimension to the ongoing public discourse surrounding the kidnapping incident, although no evidence has been publicly presented to support the allegations.
Meanwhile, security agencies continue investigations into the abduction, while stakeholders have called for intensified efforts to ensure the safe return of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice.
