Burutu Rep, Julius Pondi, Declares Bid for Fourth Term, Promises Continuity of Development Projects
The Member representing Burutu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Julius Pondi, has announced his intention to seek re-election for a fourth term in the 2027 general elections, pledging to sustain and expand developmental strides in the constituency.
Pondi made the declaration on Wednesday during a meeting with political stakeholders, youth representatives, community leaders, and party members held in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State. The gathering drew participation from ward leaders, former councillors, women groups, and supporters across the constituency’s 11 wards.
Speaking at the event, the federal lawmaker said his decision was informed by the need to complete ongoing projects and preserve what he described as the growing influence of Burutu in national legislative affairs.
He stated that over his 12 years in the National Assembly, he has been able to build strategic connections that have contributed to attracting federal presence and development projects to the constituency.
“This journey has been about consistent service and measurable impact. What we have achieved so far needs to be sustained so that Burutu does not lose the gains of the past years,” Pondi said.
Elected first in 2015, Pondi is currently serving his third term in the House of Representatives and is regarded as a ranking member with participation in several key committees. His legislative interests have included coastal protection, maritime security, Niger Delta development, and youth empowerment initiatives.
He further highlighted several constituency projects facilitated under his leadership, including classroom construction, primary healthcare facilities, solar-powered water systems, vocational training programmes, and empowerment support for youths and women. He also pointed to scholarships and job facilitation efforts for constituents.
According to him, Burutu’s visibility in federal decision-making has improved significantly compared to previous years, adding that continuity would strengthen representation.
“Today, Burutu is more present in national conversations than before. That access and influence must be protected and expanded,” he noted.
Political stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) present at the meeting reportedly expressed confidence in his leadership, describing his tenure as stable and development-focused.
Pondi also appealed for unity among constituents, urging political actors to avoid divisive rhetoric and focus on developmental issues affecting the area.
He maintained that leadership should be assessed based on performance and record of service rather than sentiment or political noise.
“Our people face common challenges, and what we need is unity and consistent representation that delivers results,” he added.
If re-elected in 2027, Pondi would become one of the longest-serving federal legislators from Delta South Senatorial District.
