Anti-Oil Theft War Intensifies as Tantita Donates Gunboats to Security Forces
Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited has handed over 15 newly procured gunboats to the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Navy in a move aimed at strengthening maritime security operations across the country.
The handover ceremony took place on Thursday at the Nigerian Navy Boatyard in Port Harcourt, drawing military officials, security stakeholders, and representatives of the private security firm.
According to details from the event, seven of the gunboats were presented to the Nigerian Army, while eight were handed over to the Nigerian Navy to support ongoing efforts to combat crude oil theft, piracy, illegal bunkering, and other security threats within Nigeria’s waterways.
The initiative is part of Tantita Security Services’ continued collaboration with security agencies in protecting critical national assets and enhancing safety in the maritime sector.
Photos from the ceremony showed military officers inspecting the gunboats before the official transfer, with the vessels expected to boost operational capacity and rapid response capabilities along strategic coastal and riverine areas.
Security experts have repeatedly stressed the importance of stronger partnerships between government agencies and private organisations in tackling insecurity in the Niger Delta and other maritime corridors.
The donation comes amid renewed efforts by Nigerian authorities to improve surveillance and security across the nation’s waterways, particularly in oil-producing regions where illegal activities have continued to threaten economic stability.
Officials at the event described the development as a significant contribution toward strengthening national security and safeguarding critical infrastructure within the maritime environment.
