Akwa Ibom Government Dismisses Aide Over Social Media Post Criticising Tinubu
A media aide attached to the Office of the Political Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has been relieved of his duties following a social media post in which he suggested that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should resign over the nation’s prevailing challenges.
The affected aide, Osborne Ubong Okon, was officially dismissed through a letter dated June 2, 2026, and signed by the Political Adviser to the Governor, Godwin Ntuk Udeh.
According to the letter, the decision was based on actions deemed inconsistent with the expectations of loyalty and professionalism required within the office.
The letter stated that Okon’s appointment was terminated with immediate effect, citing concerns over conduct considered incompatible with the administration’s values and objectives.
The development followed a Facebook post by Okon in which he expressed dissatisfaction with the state of the nation and suggested that the President should consider stepping down from office.
The post quickly attracted public attention and generated reactions across political circles, particularly given Okon’s affiliation with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The incident has also drawn interest because Governor Umo Eno, who previously served under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently aligned with the APC and has publicly declared support for President Tinubu and the ruling party.
Reacting to his dismissal, Okon said he first learned of the decision through friends and associates who informed him that the letter had already circulated widely on social media.
He expressed disappointment over the manner in which the information was communicated, describing the process as embarrassing and unexpected.
According to him, he was particularly surprised by allegations of disloyalty, insisting that he had maintained a cordial relationship with his principal and remained committed to supporting the administration.
Okon disclosed that his engagement in the office was driven more by a desire to contribute to public service and political development than by financial considerations, noting that he received a monthly stipend of ₦65,000.
Despite the circumstances surrounding his dismissal, the former aide reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued support for Governor Umo Eno’s administration and its ARISE Agenda.
He also maintained that he would remain active in mobilising support for the governor and the party ahead of future political engagements.
The incident has sparked discussions about freedom of expression, party loyalty and the responsibilities of political appointees in publicly expressing views that may differ from those of the administrations they serve.
AIV NEWS reports that the matter continues to generate reactions among political observers and stakeholders within Akwa Ibom State and beyond.
