Wike-Fubara conflict past reconciling – Fayose
Former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose has stated that the ongoing conflict between Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reached a point of no return.
The two leaders have been clashing over the political control of Rivers State, leading to a divided state assembly and numerous legal disputes. In an interview with Channels TV, Fayose described the situation as “very unfortunate” and reiterated that his earlier advice to Fubara to steer clear of Wike’s conflicts was well-intentioned, given after Fubara’s electoral victory.
Fayose remarked, “The crisis has crossed the Rubicon. It has gone too far. Even if reconciliation were attempted, restoring trust would be nearly impossible. It seems too late for any resolution.”
He also weighed in on Atiku Abubakar’s presidential aspirations, suggesting that the former vice president should reconsider his ambition due to his age. Fayose stated, “With all due respect, at this stage, I believe Atiku would prefer to step back from electoral politics. By the time Asiwaju finishes his term, Atiku will likely be around 80 or 81. What would motivate him to run again?”
He emphasized that the country is yearning for a younger generation of leaders and questioned the basis for Atiku’s potential candidacy in the future.
