Lawmakers in agreement with Executive arm on supplementary budget in Ondo state
The Ondo State Government has refuted media claims of a rift between the legislative and executive branches following the Ondo State House of Assembly’s decision to postpone consideration of the 2024 supplementary budget submitted by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. The Assembly acted after the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Omowumi Isaac, did not attend the session to explain the performance of the current budget, which is needed to justify the supplementary request.
In response to reports of discord, the state’s Attorney General, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, SAN, emphasized that the relationship between the executive and legislative arms is harmonious and collaborative. He noted that the Assembly’s request for the Finance Commissioner’s presence is a standard procedure and should not be seen as a sign of conflict.
Ajulo explained that Mrs. Isaac was on an official trip and had sent the Permanent Secretary, the most senior official in her ministry, to address the Assembly. He praised the House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, for their crucial role in state development and reiterated the effective partnership between the two branches in serving the people.
He stressed the importance of following proper procedures in a constitutional democracy and affirmed the administration’s commitment to maintaining high legislative standards and fostering mutual respect. The Assembly has since instructed that a new invitation be sent to Mrs. Isaac for her appearance on October 17, 2024.
