Court Grants ₦200 Million Bail in Alleged Cybercrime Case

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail in the sum of ₦200 million to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and publisher, , who is standing trial over alleged cybercrime charges.

Delivering the ruling on Tuesday, Justice admitted the defendant to bail on strict conditions. The court ordered Sowore to produce two sureties, one of whom must be a traditional ruler from his community, while the second must be a landed property owner in Abuja.

Justice Umar further directed that both sureties be verified by the prosecution before the bail conditions are deemed fulfilled.

As part of the bail terms, the court ordered Sowore to deposit his international passport with the Deputy Chief Registrar of the court pending the conclusion of the trial.

Following the ruling, the court released the defendant to his legal team and adjourned proceedings until Monday, July 6, when Sowore is expected to open his defence in the alleged cybercrime case.

The case continues as the court prepares to hear the defence in the next phase of the trial.
