Amaechi Says Loss To Tinubu In APC Primary Shook His Faith
Former Rotimi Amaechi has revealed that losing the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to President Bola Tinubu had a profound impact on his personal life and spiritual journey.
The former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State made the disclosure during an interview on Arise Television, where he reflected on the emotional and spiritual struggles he experienced after the APC presidential primary.
According to Amaechi, the outcome of the primary election affected him beyond politics, pushing him into a period of deep reflection and spiritual doubt.
He explained that his concerns were not only about his personal loss but also about the hardship and suffering faced by many Nigerians despite widespread prayers across the country.
Amaechi said the situation made him begin to question why the country continued to experience hardship, insecurity and economic difficulties, leading to a decline in his usual prayer life.
“I began to ask God, ‘God, do you honestly believe that Nigerians should continue to suffer?’ And then it affected my faith a bit, I stopped praying,” Amaechi stated.
The former governor admitted that during that period, he withdrew from regular spiritual activities and stopped attending prayer sessions with his spiritual mentor.
He noted that his spiritual guide later reached out after noticing his absence and helped him navigate the difficult phase by reminding him about faith, patience and accepting situations beyond human control.
Amaechi’s remarks come amid ongoing political conversations surrounding the 2027 presidential race and the future of opposition politics in Nigeria.
