Aondoakaa Emerges PDP Consensus Governorship Candidate In Benue
A former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Michael Kaase Aondoakaa, has emerged as the consensus governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision followed about three weeks of consultations and internal screening by party leaders and stakeholders across the state, involving all 11 aspirants who had initially shown interest in the ticket.
Key figures in the party, including former governor Samuel Ortom, Senate Minority Leader Patrick Abba Moro, and members of the state working committee led by Ezekiel Adaji, participated in the process.
Party blocs such as the G-14 and G-9 elders, along with lawmakers and other stakeholders, were also involved in the consultations.
At the conclusion of the process, Aondoakaa was adopted as the sole candidate, with the other aspirants agreeing to step down in the interest of party unity.
Some aspirants reportedly raised concerns, particularly on zoning, but ultimately accepted the decision and pledged support for the party’s collective goal.
Figures in the race, including Dennis Ityavyar, Dominic Ucha, Tor Uja, Sebastine Hon, Tersoo Loko, and Tor Tiv Ato, all agreed to align with the consensus arrangement.
Speaking after the decision, Samuel Ortom commended the aspirants for their cooperation and urged members to remain united as preparations for the election intensify.
Patrick Moro described the move as strategic, noting that it would strengthen the PDP’s chances in the state.
In his acceptance remarks, Aondoakaa thanked party stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to unite all factions within the party.
He assured members of his commitment to building a strong platform capable of securing victory in the 2027 governorship election.
Party leaders noted that adopting a consensus candidate is part of a deliberate strategy to prevent internal disputes and present a united front, positioning the PDP for a more competitive outing in Benue State.
