Former Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, has reportedly listed three major conditions before accepting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket for the 2027 general elections.
According to insider sources, Jonathan’s first demand is the return of former presidential contenders Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to the PDP. Atiku, who was the party’s flagbearer in the 2019 and 2023 elections, and Obi, the Labour Party’s candidate in 2023, both left the PDP after internal disputes. Jonathan believes their return would significantly boost the party’s strength against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His second and more controversial demand is the expulsion of Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State governor. Wike, who led the PDP’s G5 faction during the 2023 elections, is accused of sabotaging the party’s presidential bid.
Political observers say fulfilling Jonathan’s conditions could unite the PDP’s top political figures ahead of 2027, but removing Wike could spark fresh political unrest, particularly in Rivers State where he maintains strong influence.
If met, Jonathan’s terms could set the stage for the PDP’s most formidable challenge yet in its bid to reclaim power from the APC.
