In a bold move signaling a seismic shift in Akwa Ibom’s political landscape, Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, hosted a high-level meeting with stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from all three senatorial districts of the state. The meeting, held in Abuja, marked a significant push towards a historic political alignment that could reshape governance and development across the state.

During his address, a key speaker at the gathering called on APC members to embrace collaboration with defecting members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other political groups. “What we want from party members, both old and new, is to be united and remain peaceful in the overall interest of our dear state,” he declared, stressing that unity would bring unparalleled dividends to Akwa Ibom.

He revealed that Governor Umo Eno, after wide-ranging consultations with political stakeholders and traditional institutions, has thrown his weight behind the initiative. “The Governor has said it is time for Akwa Ibom to support our son and also support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for finding an Akwa Ibom son worthy to be the Number Three citizen of Nigeria,” he quoted.

The speaker emphasized that this alignment is not limited to the PDP alone. “It is not only the Governor and the PDP that will join us; all other political parties are going to join us,” he assured. “For the first time in the history of Akwa Ibom State, we are most likely going to have a rancour-free election.”

He further underscored the benefits of political synergy with the federal government. “Being linked to the centre comes with a lot of federal presence in terms of projects and human capital development,” he said, noting that the proposed realignment would “attract significant federal interventions to Akwa Ibom, aimed at improving the welfare and development of the people.”

The atmosphere of the meeting was one of renewed hope and strategic optimism as party faithful were urged to prioritize collective progress over personal ambition. The APC, he said, “is big enough to accommodate everyone,” and this inclusive approach would lay the groundwork for lasting peace, stability, and development in Akwa Ibom.

With the stage set for what could be the most unified political front in the state’s democratic history, all eyes are now on how swiftly the political class will translate this rhetoric into action.
