A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) reportedly aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced former governorship candidate in Cross River State, Sandy Onor, as its consensus presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The declaration was made on Tuesday during a gathering held at the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja.
Former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, who chaired the presidential primaries collation process, stated that the decision followed consultations among party stakeholders and delegates across the country.
According to him, Senator Onor emerged as the sole aspirant within the faction after completing the required nomination procedures earlier this month.
Speaking at the event, Ortom explained that consultations and internal deliberations were conducted before members adopted the consensus arrangement through a voice vote process.
Following the announcement, party officials presented the PDP flag and a certificate of return to Senator Onor as the faction’s presidential standard bearer for the 2027 election.
Other party figures said to have monitored the exercise included National Commissioners Abdullahi Zuru and Prof. Rhoda Habor Gumus.
The development is expected to generate fresh reactions within the opposition party as political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to evolve.
