JUST IN: Sowore Emerges AAC Presidential Candidate for 2027
Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has emerged as the consensus presidential candidate of the African Action Congress for the 2027 general election.
Sowore was unanimously endorsed during the party’s presidential primary held on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
Announcing the outcome of the exercise, Chairman of the Primary Election Committee, Kayode Babayemi, said the party’s decision reflected confidence in Sowore’s long-standing commitment to democracy, justice, and good governance.
According to him, the AAC believes Sowore has consistently demonstrated leadership and dedication to the struggle for a better Nigeria.
Reacting to his emergence, Omoyele Sowore described the AAC as the country’s only genuine opposition platform, insisting that the party remains committed to offering Nigerians a credible alternative.
He stated that the AAC had survived political pressure over the years and remained independent of political godfathers and corrupt influence.
Sowore also dismissed talks of joining alliances with other established political parties, declaring that the AAC itself represents a coalition for revolutionary change.
“We are not just seeking to win an election; we are here to bring revolutionary change,” he said.
The AAC candidate further criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress, blaming the party for Nigeria’s present socio-economic and security challenges.
He also urged international financial institutions, including the International Monetary Fund, to stop granting loans to Nigerian politicians, warning that an AAC-led government would reject such debts if elected in 2027.
