Tinubu Sends Delegation To Inspect Federal, State Projects In Abia
A high-powered Renewed Hope Ambassadors Presidential Media Team has arrived in Abia State to inspect ongoing federal and state government projects across the state.
The development was disclosed by the Abia State Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
According to Kanu, the visit forms part of the Renewed Hope National Media Tour designed to showcase developmental projects being executed under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and various state governments across Nigeria.
He explained that the nationwide project inspection exercise covers all six geopolitical zones and described the team’s visit to Abia as timely, citing the growing partnership between the Federal Government and the state government.
Kanu noted that the collaboration has resulted in key developmental initiatives, including the airport project and the recently flagged-off Renewed Hope Housing Estate project.
Members of the presidential media team are expected to tour different parts of Abia State to inspect road infrastructure and other developmental projects spread across the 17 local government areas.
The visit is expected to conclude with a civic reception to be hosted by Governor Alex Otti in honour of the delegation.
Speaking on transportation reforms, the commissioner announced that full operations had commenced at the ultra-modern bus terminal in Umuahia.
He stated that transport operators in the informal sector had begun relocating into the facility as part of efforts to improve transport management and enhance urban orderliness.
According to him, the transition process is being implemented in phases, beginning with the Abia Green Shuttle buses, followed by informal transport operators and later formal transport operators.
Kanu acknowledged that while stakeholders had expressed satisfaction with the new system, some operators initially resisted the relocation due to reluctance to adapt to change.
He disclosed that about 39 transport operators were involved in the exercise and confirmed that enforcement activities had commenced to ensure compliance.
The commissioner reiterated that the initiative is aimed at improving safety, efficiency and orderliness within the state’s transport system.
On infrastructure development, Kanu said the Otti administration remains committed to sustaining road construction and rehabilitation projects across Abia State to improve connectivity and stimulate economic activities.
He added that despite recorded progress, the government would continue to prioritise infrastructure renewal and community access projects.
The commissioner further announced that the Abia State Government, through the Ministry of Women Affairs in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Governor, would commemorate the International Day of the Boy Child on June 16, 2026.
He also disclosed that the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection, in partnership with the Office of the Wife of the Governor, joined the global community in observing World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Activities planned for the commemoration include public sensitisation campaigns on the rights of senior citizens, available protection services and mechanisms for reporting abuse.
Kanu stated that the initiative would also promote stronger collaboration among healthcare institutions, community leaders and social protection stakeholders to improve support systems for older persons.
He reaffirmed that the state government remains committed to infrastructure development, social welfare and strategic partnerships aimed at improving the quality of life of residents across Abia State.
