Tinubu Meets with Traditional Rulers, Security Chiefs Amid Looming Protests

As the country teeters on the brink of chaos, President Bola Tinubu has convened an emergency meeting with top traditional rulers, security brass, and governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to address the growing unrest.

The closed-door meeting, held at the State House in Abuja, comes as a planned nationwide protest against economic hardship gains momentum on social media.

With the ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest slated for August, Tinubu is pulling out all the stops to placate disgruntled citizens.

The President has appealed to youths to shelve the protest, while also sending a bill to raise the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000 to the National Assembly.

The legislature has swiftly passed the bill, awaiting Tinubu’s assent.

However, security agencies warn that rogue elements plan to take over the protest, citing the recent anarchy in Kenya as a cautionary tale.

The police and military have vowed to prevent a repeat of the violent EndSARS protests in 2020.

As Nigerians struggle to cope with soaring food prices and basic commodities, the faceless organizers of the protest have vowed to press on with their demands for economic relief.

With tensions running high, Tinubu’s meeting with traditional rulers, including the Ooni of Ife and Sultan of Sokoto, may be a last-ditch effort to broker peace.

Will the President’s efforts be enough to quell the growing discontent, or will the protests spiral out of control? Only time will tell.
