Tinubu Appoints Fuoye Vice-chancellor As Non-career Ambassador, Seeks Senate Confirmation
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina, as a non-career ambassador.
The President has also transmitted the nomination to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation in line with constitutional requirements.
The development was announced during plenary on Wednesday by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who read President Tinubu’s correspondence before lawmakers.
Professor Fasina’s nomination now awaits legislative consideration and approval by the Senate before the appointment can take effect.
A non-career ambassadorial appointment is typically reserved for individuals selected from outside the nation’s diplomatic service based on their experience, expertise, leadership profile or contributions in other sectors.
Professor Fasina currently serves as Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, one of Nigeria’s federal tertiary institutions.
Further details regarding the proposed diplomatic assignment are expected to emerge as the Senate begins the confirmation process.
