The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has said that if he ever had the opportunity to ask God a question, he would ask why he was allowed to leave his comfort zone and venture into politics.
Obi made the remark while addressing supporters during a meeting, describing his political journey as one directed by God’s purpose despite the personal sacrifices and challenges it has involved.
According to him, every individual has a responsibility to serve wherever God places them, adding that public office should always be used for the benefit of the people.
He said his position and achievements are products of God’s grace and stressed that he remains committed to using every opportunity available to serve with integrity, whether in public office, private enterprise or corporate leadership.
Obi maintained that those entrusted with leadership must avoid abusing the privileges and responsibilities given to them and should always prioritise the welfare of the masses.
Umahi urges Nigerians to reject Obi’s presidential bid
Meanwhile, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has urged Nigerians, particularly people of the South-East, not to support Peter Obi’s presidential ambition.
Speaking during an inspection of ongoing federal road projects, including sections of the Trans-Saharan Highway and other legacy infrastructure projects, Umahi declared his continued support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.
The minister said his endorsement of Tinubu is based on what he described as the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development across the country, especially in the South-East.
Umahi expressed confidence that ongoing road and legacy projects initiated under the current administration would be completed if President Tinubu secures a second term in office.
He also stated that changing governments often leads to delays in completing inherited projects, arguing that continuity would ensure the successful completion of major infrastructure across Nigeria.
The former Ebonyi State governor further cited the ongoing reconstruction of the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway as one of the administration’s notable achievements, expressing optimism that the project would be completed with additional features, including solar-powered street lighting and improved security measures.
The comments from both political figures come as political activities and alignments continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
