Just In: Governor Diri inaugurates ex-Amnesty boss Kuku, 5 others as INC reconciliation committee members
Governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has inaugurated a six-man reconciliation committee for the Ijaw National Congress, with a mandate to reconcile disputing individuals and interests within the body.
The inauguration ceremony took place at Government House in Yenagoa, where the governor charged the committee members to restore unity and uphold the vision of the founding fathers of the INC.
Governor Diri stated that the committee must come up with recommendations that are free, fair, and all-inclusive in order to strengthen unity among the Ijaw people.
According to him, “The strength of the Ijaw Nation is not in the loudness of our disputes, but in our unity.”
The six-member committee includes Goddy Damnabo and Gabriel Tobi from the Eastern Zone; Brodrick Bozimo and J.B. Fumudor from the Western Zone; while Matthew Seiyefa and Boladei Igali represent the Central Zone.
Former Amnesty Programme Administrator, Kingsley Kuku, and former Commissioner for Ijaw National Affairs, Erasmus Patrick, will manage the committee’s secretariat.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, Chairman Matthew Seiyefa thanked Governor Diri for the confidence reposed in them and assured that the committee would deliver on its assignment.
Dignitaries present at the event included Deputy Governor Peter Akpe, Secretary to the State Government Nimbofa Ayawei, Acting Chief of Staff Irorodamie Komonibo, and Commissioner for Information and Strategy Ebiowou Koku-Obiyai, alongside other government officials.
