President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, on Wednesday administered the oath of office to four newly elected senators following their victories in the June 20 senatorial bye-elections.

The swearing-in ceremony took place during plenary at the National Assembly as the lawmakers officially assumed their legislative responsibilities.

The newly inaugurated senators include three members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and one member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawmakers are:

– Dayo Faduyile (APC – Ondo South)

– Danladi Envulu-Anza (APC – Nasarawa North)

– Ikeje Asogwu (APC – Enugu North)

– Olaka Nwogu (PDP – Rivers South-East)

Senator Dayo Faduyile takes over the Ondo South seat following the appointment of former senator, Jimoh Ibrahim, as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

Meanwhile, Senators Ikeje Asogwu, Olaka Nwogu and Danladi Envulu-Anza emerged through the bye-elections conducted to fill vacancies created by the deaths of the former occupants of their respective seats earlier in the year.

Their inauguration increases representation for the affected senatorial districts and allows the affected constituencies to regain full participation in legislative activities at the Senate.

The swearing-in comes as the Senate continues deliberations on key national issues, including ongoing constitutional amendment proposals and reforms in Nigeria’s governance and security sectors.
