The Ondo State Security Network, known as Amotekun, has announced the arrest and public parade of over 300 suspected criminals within the past three months. The Amotekun Commander, Chief Adetunji Adeleye, stated that the arrests took place across 15 locations within the state’s 18 local government areas.

Adeleye attributed the arrests to a proactive response to the rising presence of bandits in the South-West region, emphasizing the state’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

“We rely heavily on grassroots intelligence,” Adeleye said. “Over the last three months, we have arrested over 300 suspects linked to crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery, housebreaking, and minor offences. Some of these individuals have been prosecuted, while others remain in correctional centres or had their cases resolved.”

He highlighted the role of “Amotekun ambassadors,” undercover operatives who gather intelligence from towns and villages, helping to identify collaborators and criminal elements. “This system has been instrumental in our success. Every arrest we’ve made is the result of intelligence from communities,” he added, pledging to make Ondo State uninhabitable for criminals.

In a related development, the Ondo North Youth Alliance (ONYA) has criticized Senator Jide Ipinsagba, representing Ondo North Senatorial District, for his perceived indifference to the region’s security challenges. The group also threatened to begin his recall process due to his alleged inaction since his inauguration two years ago.

ONYA President, Ojo Bright Eniafe, expressed frustration over Senator Ipinsagba’s silence on security issues, particularly the rise in cult-related killings in Owo town.

“The senator’s lack of response to these killings shows insensitivity to the welfare and safety of his constituents,” Eniafe stated. “We are tired of living in fear and demand that he collaborate with relevant institutions to address these challenges.”

The youths further accused Ipinsagba of failing to initiate meaningful projects in the constituency, urging him to take responsibility and address the concerns of his people. “A little show of concern can make a significant difference,” Eniafe concluded.
