Kidnappers arrested for targeting students
According to Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer at Force Headquarters Abuja, recent police operations in Imo State have led to notable successes in fighting crime, particularly kidnappings. On August 21, 2024, five suspects connected to kidnappings in Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa were arrested in Avu. The suspects, Umaru Usman from Sokoto, Tukur Yau from Kano, Musbau Sabo (18) from Kano, Abdul Ibrahim from Sokoto, and Jubrin Idris from Sokoto, were apprehended and a kidnapped victim was rescued.
Additionally, Nwauba Alex, a 25-year-old from Ezza LGA, Ebonyi State, was arrested for attempting to rob two residents at gunpoint near Aladinma Primary School in Owerri. Police recovered a locally made pistol, two rounds of ammunition, and torchlights from him.
The Nigeria Police Force continues to intensify efforts against crime, emphasizing its commitment to enhancing public safety through both proactive and reactive measures. Recent achievements include significant progress in addressing kidnappings in Imo State.
Meanwhile, SaharaReporters reported that the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) issued a security alert on September 10, 2024, due to a series of kidnappings near the university’s main gate. The university’s registrar, Chiedozie Uba, expressed concern over the kidnappings occurring along Obinze-Ihiagwa Road during early morning and late evening hours.
