We are now farm slaves in our land_Niger residents cry out
The Secretary of the Coalition of Shiroro Associations, Saidu Salihu, has urgently requested the return of military forces to Allawa and neighboring areas in Niger State to safeguard residents and enable displaced farmers to resume their activities.
Residents of Shiroro Local Government Area (LGA) are increasingly concerned about the growing control of terrorists and bandits, with reports indicating that locals are being forced to work on farms for these criminals. It was reported that a terrorist leader has seized over 20 bags of soybeans from farms in Allawa and surrounding areas this year.
Salihu criticized the government for withdrawing soldiers three months ago, which he believes has led to a rise in terrorist activities and forced residents into collaboration with these groups for survival. He called for stronger cooperation between the Niger State government and security agencies and support for local vigilante groups. He also urged both federal and state governments to compensate displaced individuals who have lost their homes, property, and livelihoods.
Babangida Kudodo, President of the Lakpma Youth Forum, expressed frustration over the lack of effective action from both state and federal governments despite reports of worsening security conditions. He highlighted the problem of informants who, after being arrested and released, pose additional threats to the community.
Abdullah Suleiman Erena warned that the Lakpma area is at risk of becoming a stronghold for various terrorist groups, including Boko Haram, ISWAP, and Ansaru. He criticized both the press and government for underestimating the severity of the situation and stressed the potential threat to the Federal Capital Territory due to its proximity to Shiroro LGA.
Sani Abubakar Yusuf Kokki criticized the Niger State government for not exerting more pressure on the federal government to address the escalating security issues. He emphasized that more action is needed to protect the population from growing threats.
