FUEL DROUGHT STRIKES NIGERIA: State Oil Firm Points To Torrential Rains, Electrical Rain Storm

Nigeria’s state oil company has attributed the current fuel shortage and lengthy queues at petrol stations across the nation to inclement weather conditions.

The company’s downstream chief, Dapo Segun, tendered apologies to Nigerians for the inconvenience, pledging that the firm will exert every effort to mitigate the situation.

“We empathize with the frustration of Nigerians and apologize for the queues. We won’t offer excuses but will strive to manage the situation,” Segun said at a press briefing in Abuja.

Segun explained that the recent downpour, electrical storms, and thunderstorms have hindered the seamless distribution of fuel nationwide, citing challenges in navigating the Estragos channel due to silting, and the suspension of fuel discharge during electrical storms.

However, Segun assured that the state oil firm is working assiduously to address the challenges, stating that vessels are currently discharging and offloading in Lagos.

Despite the challenges, Segun vowed that the state oil firm will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that fuel reaches all parts of the country.

“We will do everything possible to ensure that fuel gets to all nooks and crannies of this country,” Segun said.
