Ondo State PDP Leader Resigns, Cites Extortion and Mismanagement
In a significant political development, the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State, Ebenezer Alabi, has announced his resignation from the party. Alabi’s decision, formally submitted to the chairman of Ward 11 in Akure North Local Government, follows extensive consultations with his family, political associates, friends, and followers.
Alabi expressed his inability to continue associating with party leaders whose primary objective, he alleges, is to accumulate financial wealth during election cycles. He condemned the misappropriation of funds meant for mobilization during the last general elections, stating that a significant portion of the money ended up in the private accounts of certain leaders, to the detriment of the party’s success.
“The large chunk of money sent for mobilization during the past general elections ended up in the private pockets of these leaders at the detriment of the party’s victory,” Alabi said. He also highlighted that some leaders extorted money from aspirants during the primaries, allocating delegates’ votes based on the amounts paid, rather than on merit or democratic principles.
“The overall success of the party is none of their concern, in as much as their personal aggrandizement is satisfied. Unfortunately, the depressing reality is that I am yet to notice any radical departure from this ugly trend, hence my decision to quit in order not to be part of further political misfortunes,” he added.
As he exits the PDP, Alabi expressed gratitude to party members for their support and cooperation over the past 21 years. “As I take a final bow today, let me use this medium to express my deep appreciation to you and all other party members for their support, respect, and cooperation accorded me for the past 21 years.”
Alabi’s resignation marks a notable moment in Ondo State’s political landscape, raising questions about the internal dynamics and future direction of the PDP in the region.
