Yesterday, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has directed the transition committees to take over the administration of the 18 council areas and 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) despite a Supreme Court ruling on local government autonomy.
This decision was communicated by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Amidu Takuro, who emphasized that the ruling affects multiple states, not just Ondo.
He noted that there is room for negotiation and that local government elections cannot be conducted immediately due to procedural requirements.
