The political temperature in Bayelsa State is rising ahead of the 2027 governorship election as Great Joshua MacIver formally signals his intention to seek the governorship ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), while unveiling a major financial commitment to the Party’s activities.

MacIver communicated his ambition in a formal letter addressed to the Bayelsa State PDP Chairman and members of the State Working Committee (SWC), officially bringing his governorship aspiration into the political spotlight.

In the declaration, MacIver placed emphasis on competence, experience, integrity, transparency, effective leadership and the welfare of Bayelsans, arguing that the state’s next phase of development should be driven by performance rather than political calculations surrounding zoning.

“I firmly believe that the people of Bayelsa State deserve a leader who prioritises effectiveness, the welfare of our people, and the development of our State,” he stated.

In what could become one of the most significant financial commitments emerging from the unfolding 2027 political contest, MacIver also pledged to contribute ₦70 million every month to the PDP in Bayelsa State, beginning from August 2026.

The pledge, according to his declaration, is intended to support the rebuilding, strengthening and repositioning of the PDP’s political machinery across the state.

The development is already poised to inject fresh momentum into the PDP’s internal political dynamics, particularly as aspirants position themselves ahead of the party’s eventual nomination process.

MacIver’s entry into the race is therefore expected to intensify consultations, realign political interests and heighten competition within the ruling political structure as the 2027 governorship contest gradually takes centre stage.

With his emphasis on governance capacity and a substantial financial pledge to the Party, Great Joshua MacIver has effectively thrown his hat into the ring, setting the stage for what promises to be a closely watched battle for the PDP governorship ticket.
