NDC: ‘There Will Be No Election If Peter Obi Is Not On The Ballot’ – Obioha

The Leader of Njiko Igbo Forum, Rev. Dr. Okechukwu Christopher Obioha, has warned that Nigeria could face a political crisis if former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, is prevented from contesting the 2027 presidential election.

Obioha made the remarks while reacting to a Federal High Court ruling directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to deregister the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party.

The court, presided over by Justice Isah Dashen in Lokoja, ruled that an earlier judgment affected the rights of the Peace Movement Party (PMP), which claimed ownership of the logo adopted by the NDC.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Post, Obioha expressed concern over what he described as declining public confidence in Nigeria’s judiciary.

According to him, inconsistent judicial pronouncements, particularly on political matters, have weakened trust in the institution.

He stated:

“Now we have no regard for the judiciary in Nigeria. The judiciary in Nigeria is full of inconsistencies.

“As far as political arrangements are concerned, or pronouncements by the courts, we don’t trust them any longer.”

Obioha further warned that excluding Peter Obi from participating in the 2027 presidential election could create wider political consequences.

In his words:

“If Peter Obi is frustrated and is not on the ballot, there will be no election in 2027. That’s not a threat. It is going to work out that way.

“If you like, you can call it prophecy. I’m a reverend. Call it anything, but I’m just warning Nigerians.

“If Peter Obi, with all the struggles and on the level he’s now, is frustrated not to be on the ballot, there will be no election in 2027.”

He added that many Nigerians had become dissatisfied with the current political system and were seeking alternatives ahead of future elections.

The comments come amid ongoing political realignments and legal developments ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.
