NNPC Disowns Alleged Sale of Refinery Scrap, Warns Public Against Fraudsters
NNPC Limited has issued a public warning over the circulation of false and misleading claims suggesting that the company is selling refinery scrap materials and equipment to individuals and private firms.
In an official statement released by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the national oil company firmly denied authorising any such sales. The statement clarified that NNPC Limited has not initiated or approved any requests for bids, tenders, or expressions of interest for the disposal of refinery components, scrap materials, or inventory items from any of its facilities.
The company also raised alarm over reports of impersonators posing as its agents or representatives. According to the statement, these individuals are fraudulently claiming to facilitate the sale of so-called refinery scrap and equipment, thereby deceiving unsuspecting members of the public.
NNPC Limited stressed that such persons are not authorised and urged the public, corporate bodies, and industry stakeholders to disregard any related offers or solicitations.
“For the avoidance of doubt, NNPC Limited is not conducting, nor has it authorised, any sale of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from any of its facilities,” the statement emphasised.
The company further noted that any legitimate disposal of assets would be carried out through transparent and officially communicated processes, in line with regulatory standards.
Members of the public are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious claims or individuals to relevant law enforcement authorities.
NNPC Limited reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the responsible management of Nigeria’s energy assets.
