In an overwhelming development on health care delivery, the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved an upward review of salaries for medical doctors in the state civil service, raising pay across key entry levels by ₦200,000.

Under the new structure, House Officers will now earn ₦350,000 monthly, up from ₦250,000, while newly recruited doctors will receive ₦570,000, an increase from the previous ₦370,000.

The adjustment, according to sources within the state government, is part of efforts to improve the welfare of health workers and strengthen service delivery in the state’s healthcare system.

A senior official described the development as “a necessary step to enhance motivation among medical personnel and address workforce challenges in the sector.”

The decision comes amid ongoing concerns over the migration of Nigerian medical professionals abroad in search of better remuneration and working conditions.

Industry observers note that the new salary scale places Delta among states making deliberate moves to retain skilled healthcare workers, particularly at the entry level.

Implementation details are expected to be communicated by the relevant government agencies.
