APC Vows To Counter Peter Obi’s Political Influence Ahead Of 2027 Election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its readiness to challenge and weaken the growing political influence of former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party’s Deputy National Chairman (South), Ben Nwoye, made this known during an appearance on Channels Television, where he emphasised that the ruling party is prepared for a tough political contest.
Nwoye admitted that Obi and his supporters, popularly known as the “Obidient Movement,” made a significant impact during the last general election, particularly in the South-East region.
He noted that the movement secured major victories across legislative positions, describing the region as a stronghold of Obi’s political base.
The APC chieftain stated that the party would mobilise its structures and strategies to compete effectively in the next election cycle.
According to him, Obi’s growing political reach across multiple states, including parts of the South-South and even Lagos, makes him a formidable contender that cannot be ignored.
“We are going to fight through the system and ensure we secure as many votes as possible to win,” he said.
Nwoye further projected that the 2027 presidential race would be highly competitive, especially in southern Nigeria, where multiple aspirants are expected to emerge.
He mentioned other political figures, including Rotimi Amaechi, as potential contenders who may also shape the political landscape.
Peter Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, is now associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he is seeking to secure the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 elections.
Political analysts believe the evolving alliances and growing influence of opposition figures could set the stage for a highly competitive and unpredictable electoral contest in 2027.
