Veteran Nigerian filmmaker Wale Adenuga has broken his silence following recent claims by actor Abiodun Ayoyinka, widely known for his iconic role as Papa Ajasco.

The controversy emerged after Ayoyinka alleged financial hardship despite decades of acting and disclosed that he requires permission to use the “Papa Ajasco” identity for personal engagements.

In a detailed statement released by Wale Adenuga Productions, Adenuga dismissed claims of neglect, describing them as misleading and not reflective of reality. He acknowledged Ayoyinka’s immense contribution to the success of the long-running comedy series Papa Ajasco and Company, noting that there has been no major disagreement between both parties.

Adenuga clarified that while Ayoyinka remains free to pursue other professional opportunities, the “Papa Ajasco” brand is copyrighted and requires official approval before use, emphasizing the need to protect its integrity.

Addressing the actor’s financial concerns, Adenuga questioned the management of Ayoyinka’s earnings from over three decades in the Lagos State civil service and his acting career. He added that the actor had benefitted from several opportunities, including access to multiple vehicles and personal assets.

He further explained that actors on the show are only engaged for about six weeks annually, during which episodes for the entire year are produced, giving them ample time to explore other ventures.

The producer also highlighted that other cast members—including Pa James, Mama Ajasco, Boy Alinco, Miss Pepeiye, Akpan, and Oduma—continue to secure roles independently, indicating that the production company does not restrict its talents.

Reaffirming the company’s reputation, Adenuga stated that Wale Adenuga Productions has consistently met its financial obligations and maintained cordial relationships with its artistes and crew.

“The organisation pays according to industry standards and ensures all financial obligations are fulfilled as at when due. Any narrative suggesting abandonment or exploitation is entirely false and misleading,” the statement read.

The statement concluded with appreciation for public concern and support, while reiterating the company’s commitment to transparency and sustaining its legacy in Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
