YOUNGEST YORUBA MONARCH WARNS AGAINST DISRESPECT, INSISTS ON ROYAL PROTOCOL
The Arujale-Ojime of Okeluse Kingdom in Ondo State, Oba Oloyede Adekoya Akinghare II, has cautioned members of the public against any form of disrespect toward his person and the throne.
The 22-year-old traditional ruler raised concerns over reports that some individuals have been addressing him in a casual and inappropriate manner, allegedly using informal terms that undermine the dignity of the royal office.
In a statement issued by the palace through the monarch’s Chief of Staff, Prince Adefemi Olorunfemi, it was emphasized that the king must be formally addressed as His Royal Majesty at all times, stressing that his youthful age does not diminish the authority or sacredness of the throne he occupies.
The palace noted that attempts to disguise disrespect under familiarity would no longer be tolerated, warning that decisive measures would be taken against such conduct. It further stressed that the monarch’s calm nature and leniency should not be mistaken for weakness or an excuse to disregard tradition.
The statement reaffirmed that the Arujale-Ojime is regarded as a custodian of culture and a representative of divine authority on earth, making respect for the throne a fundamental obligation, regardless of an individual’s age, status, or position in society.
Residents of Okeluse Kingdom and the general public were urged to uphold Yoruba cultural values by showing proper respect to the monarch, with the palace stressing that reverence for the throne remains essential to preserving tradition, heritage, and communal identity.
