AFCON 2025 PRIZE MONEY CONFIRMED AS SENEGAL POCKET $10M FOR TITLE WIN
The prize money for the top-performing teams at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) has been officially confirmed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Senegal emerged champions of the tournament after defeating host nation Morocco 1-0 in the final decided after extra time.
Midfielder Pape Gueye scored the decisive goal with a powerful strike just three minutes into extra time, sealing the victory for the Teranga Lions. The match had ended 0-0 after 120 minutes of regulation and added time.
CAF President, Patrice Motsepe, announced a record prize of $10 million for the tournament winners, representing a significant increase from the $7 million awarded to champions at the 2023 edition.
According to the breakdown, Morocco, who finished as runners-up, received $4 million, while Nigeria, who placed third, earned $2.5 million. Egypt, finishing fourth, were awarded $1.3 million.
Further details show that quarter-finalists each received $800,000, teams that finished third in their groups earned $700,000, while those that placed fourth in their groups went home with $500,000.
The increased prize money underscores CAF’s efforts to enhance the competitiveness and global appeal of African football.
